We want the knees to change flex a little on the backswing. The trail knee should extend (get straighter) and the lead knee should flex.

But what happens if you’re changing the flex too much?

This is what Ryan was doing at the start of his lesson. So we worked on a quieter knee action and he got it.

Sometimes when we do things too much, we need to scale the movement down a little and feel as though we are doing less.

The reason for this is because we want the spine to move effectively throughout the swing. If the knees are changing flex too much (as in Ryans case) his head (and therefore the center of his shoulders) was moving forward towards the target. We want to think of the center of the shoudlers as a fixed point that we simply pivot around.
