There’s a correct way to set your phone/iPad up before you start videoing your swing.

The first thing to mention is that it has to be stable. If someone is holding your phone to video your swing, they have to be extremely still. Which is difficult to do.

There is generally always some kind of movement with the camera. Not good if we’re going to accurately analyze our swing.

So, the answer is to not be dependent on someone to hold your phone. You need a tripod and a smartphone mount!

You can literally grab one of these from Amazon for less than a few cups of coffee.

The iPad Tripod and mount will set you back a little more, but well worth the small investment in your golf game.

Once you have the gear, then you need to know how to position the tripod.

The screenshot below is from my screen and V1 system. Notice how on the left the camera is set up facing Byson Dechambeau. The green arrow indicates the camera directly facing his chest. It is also about waist height.

Aklso notice Tommy Fleetwood on the right side of the screen. The green arrow indicates tye camera position directly on the line of the hands, Again, set at waist height.

This is particularly important to gain an understanding of the hand path during the takeaway and positions during the backswing. And also, down to P6, through impact and how and where the hands exit in relation to the lead shoulder.

Key points:

The Camera should be at waist height for both the face-on and down-the-line shots. Also make sure the club head is in shot throughout the swing.

Face-on: (Dechambeau) The camera is positioned in line with the chest.

Down-the-line: (Fleetwood) The camera is positioned in line with the hands.
